The Turkish President Says Muslims “Discover” America

First of all, no one “discover” America. You can’t discover some place where millions of people already lived. At the time of Columbus’ arrival in 1492, the American continent was populated with millions of Native Americans. Addressing Muslim leaders at a conference last Saturday, the president of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, said that Muslim explorers discovered the Americas three centuries before Columbus. Erdogan said “I want you to pay attention here, the meeting of the Latin America with Islam goes back to the 12th century.” He added that “Muslim sailors reached the Land of America in 1178, 314 years before Columbus.” In making the claim, President Erdogan cited the controversial research carried out by Turkish scholar Youssef Mroueh. To support the claim that Muslims came to America before Columbus, Mroueh pointed to an entry in Columbus’s diary about a mosque in Cuba. Mroueh wrote that “Columbus admitted in his papers that on Monday, October 21, 1492 CE while his Read More

Obamacare goes to the US Supreme Court once again; this time because of a Typo

Earlier this year, the United States Supreme Court allowed owners of certain businesses not to provide contraceptive coverage to their employees if, in doing so, violates their religious belief. The Affordable Care Act or Obamacare as it is called, required employers to provide contraceptive as part of their medical coverage for their employees. Now the law is once again going back to the Supreme Court mainly because of a typographical error. Actually, the problem could easily be fixed by simply adding just three words. But the fact that this case is going all the way to the Supreme Court is an indication of just how dysfunctional the American political system has become. In any sane system all it would take to fix the problem is for Congress to add these three  extra words. Yet, because of this tiny error, millions of Americans who now have health care, many of them for the first time, could lose it. Here is the problem. The case the Court will hear is called King v. Burwel. Under O Read More

Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai, who won the Nobel Peace Prize — and was shot in the head by the Taliban — for advocating girls’ education, told President Barack Obama he could “change the world” if only he’d send books instead of guns to other countries, she said Tuesday. “My message was very simple,” Malala, who is now 17, said Tuesday at the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Philadelphia, speaking of her recent meeting with the president. “I said instead of sending guns, send books. Instead of sending weapons, send teachers.” Asked by the host, Ronan Farrow of MSNBC, how Obama reacted, she said simply that his response was “pretty political.” Twitter:@Levianthony123 FollowShare Share this:EmailTweetShare on TumblrPrintMoreLike this:Like Loading... In the areas they controlled in Iraq, ISIS, the Sunni extremist group, has issued new instructions to schools.  Under the new rules, all classes and instruction should be conducted according to Sharia laws, a Muslim religious code. Under the new rules ▪ Male and female students must be separated; they cannot be taught in the same classroom. ▪ The teaching of evolution is to be removed from textbooks ▪ Anything that encourages patriotism –like the phrase, “Republic of Iraq” – is banned. ▪ The teaching of subjects such as art, music, philosophy and social studies are banned Also banned are geography, history and literature lessons as well as any teaching about Christianity. However, physics, chemistry, mathematics, Arabic and English will continue to be taught. ▪ In science books, any reference to Darwinism or to natural evolution is to be deleted. This would be replaced by sentences that made it clear that God was the creator of everything. Watch: Twitter:@Levianthon Read More

The Rich keeps getting richer while America’s children suffer from poverty.

The Great Recession officially ended five years ago, but that’s news for millions of Americans: A stunning 95 percent of income growth since the recovery started has gone to the super-wealthy. The top 1 percent has captured almost all the growth in income since. Compare that with how they did during these historic booms. Income inequality Meanwhile, while those at the top continue to reap all the gains, America’s children are being devastated by high levels of poverty. More than half of all states had child poverty rates of 20 percent or higher last year. Wonder why our children are not learning in school? Yes, there are bad teachers but nothing compare to this. Poor children have poorer health, do less well in school, and complete fewer years of education.  Over the long term, they are more likely to have chronic bad health and to work fewer hours and earn less as adults, which can contribute to a vicious cycle of poverty. US soldiers are more likely to take their own lives than be killed in combat

This is just crazy. The withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan means that fewer American soldiers are in harm’s way. But new data from the Department of Defense suggests that the drawdown has done little to solve the serious problem of military suicides. The rate of military self-inflicted deaths has stayed roughly the same even as combat deaths have fallen. Last year alone, 475 active service members took their own lives according to a report published last week by the Department of Defense. In the same year, 127 soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty. The same Department of Defense report said that 120 personnel took their own lives in the first quarter of 2014, a rate of nearly one soldier every day. It never ceases to amaze how so many of our politicians are always willing and ready to send our sons and daughters to fight wars. Many servicemen and women often return with all kinds of medical and psychological problems yet cannot get the help they need. So Read More

White House Official says Saudi Arabia has Extensive Border with Syria – Wrong.

The lack of geographical knowledge among Americans is legendary. Three years after the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, two-thirds of Americans aged 18 to 24 still could not find Iraq on a map. However, it is reasonable to expect that this level of ignorance did not extend to high officials of the US government. President Obama has declared war on the terrorist group ISIS which now controlled territory in Iraq and Syria. Just before the president made his speech last week a senior administration official met with reporters. During the meeting he was reported to have remarked that the US was having discussion with Saudi Arabia on the threat posed by ISIS because that country “has an extensive border with Syria.” The problem is that it doesn’t. You can see from this map that Syria shares borders with Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Turkey but not Saudi Arabia.
